Examples of Commercial + Industrial Product Developments:

LAVO – Green Hydrogen Energy Storage System:

The world’s first integrated hybrid hydrogen battery that combines with rooftop solar to deliver sustainable, reliable and renewable power to your home and business. Developed in partnership with UNSW and Design + Industry, LAVO™ is a hydrogen hybrid battery that stores over 40kWh of electricity – enough to power the average Australian home for 2 days.

Hone Lab Red – On-Farm Grain Analyser:

Real-time decisions to improve yields: The Hone Lab analyser is a powerful field spectrometer for the measurement of grain quality on-farm in real-time. Hone Lab provides the agriculture industry with real-time knowledge of soil health and crop quality, enabling decisions to be made in real time to achieve better yielding crops.

Hypha by Wireless Innovation – Ensuring critical communications stay live in and around regular communications blackspots.

Hypha is a brand of Wireless Innovation Pty Ltd, an Australian-owned company focused on serving the Public Safety and Enterprise sectors with integrated multi-bearer communications solutions. Key users of Hypha technology include teams of people who are operating in such areas where a dependable network connection is paramount to public and personal safety. These include emergency and disaster relief services, rescue teams as well as mining applications. HyphaMESH Communications Access Point: Reliable, Ruggedised and Intuitive. Key Design and Development challenges included – portability (hand-held form factor with clip and tether points catered for), robust IP protection (IP67), drop resistance, hot-swap batteries configurations to ensure uninterrupted network connectivity, one-handed operation requirements, with the design optimised for mass-manufacture and aesthetically representative of a mission-critical communications device. HyphaMAP is a lightweight device designed to be fitted to a vehicle, building or Drone/UAS. It combines mesh and Wi-Fi technologies to enable users to connect smart devices, sensors and cameras in environments that defeat radio and cellular communications.

Emesent Hovermap – The world’s first autonomous LiDAR mapping and autonomy payload.

Hovermap is a LiDAR mapping and autonomy payload from Australian tech start-up Emesent. When equipped with Hovermap, industrial drones can be deployed in hazardous and challenging GPS-denied environments, collecting 3D mapping data in places where it was previously impossible. Our challenge was to design an autonomous drone payload that was extremely lightweight, and yet robust enough to withstand the demands of environments such as underground mines. We developed a machined aircraft-grade aluminium frame combined with carbon fibre composite panelling to provide a strong, lightweight enclosure able to support the rotating LiDAR while remaining stable in flight. An easily setup quick-fit release system and highly legible user interface were developed to optimise usability.

Ingenico – Over our 20-year relationship we designed and developed more than 75 products in the Ingenico Eftpos Terminal range.

The Ingenico NPT-2 Eftpos Terminal– Leading the market in ergonomics, operational functionalities, security, and aesthetics: The terminal was designed by Design + Industry in 2003 for Ingenico HQ in Paris, France. It is part of a range of terminals that are a redesign of the Elite 700 series designed by D+I in 1995. This range of payment terminals (NPT2) have improved features over the earlier models. The NPT2 terminals were designed to give Ingenico a new look product design language to carry across their future range of products. Ingenico also demanded a reduction in production costs, NPT2 terminals were redesigned to reduce overall cost of manufacture. The development of the NPT2 saw over 600,000 units sold by the end of 2004, less than 18 months after it was launched, the NPT2 quickly became one of the world's leading and most recognised EFTPOS payment terminals.
