HyphaMESH MAP

HyphaMESH MAP: Mobile Access Point by Wireless Innovation

Focused on the First Responder, Public Safety and Enterprise sectors — HyphaMAP is a lightweight device designed to be fitted to a vehicle, building or Drone/UAS. It combines mesh and Wi-Fi technologies to enable users to connect smart devices, sensors and cameras in environments that defeat radio and cellular communications. HyphaMAP ensures critical communications stay live in and around regular communication blackspots. Strengthening the commercial relationship, D+I continues to work with Wireless Innovation on the development of a range of products that enrich the company’s capabilities to deliver device platforms that enable Emergency Service teams around the world to operate more safely.

Mission critical communications

Design Challenge: Deliver dependable communications in a range of mobile operating environments + scenarios

The HyphaMAP device needed to be a simple to use, lightweight device that could be easily integrated into a range of mobile operating environments.  It’s form factor had to be slim and conducive to panel mounting, with clear access to RF and network inputs/outputs.  It was also important that network status indication was clearly relayed to the end user. Thermal heatsinking was also highlighted as a key design consideration for a device destined to run continuously. Another key design challenge for the HyphaMAP was making the design modular for customisable configurations for assembly agility and ultimate commercial success.

Dependable, Functional + Highly Aesthetic

Design Solution: Critical "back-of-house" device ensuring frontline communications are seamless + reliable.

The design of the HyphaMAP is intended to house core OEM electronics and a custom developed interface PCBA designed by D+I. Space requirements associated with cable routing and connector spacings were key drivers for the size and format of the device, with a solution that is one of the smallest offerings of it's kind in the market today. The aluminium housing is both functional and highly aesthetic in its finish. A quality offering which matches it's price point perfectly. The key technology driving the HyphaMAP is HyphaMESH; an IP transparent network, based on the COFDM waveform, that can operate independently or integrate back to a central core or wider network.  This extends coverage for WiFi or Bluetooth enabled devices, sensors and cameras into challenging environments such as backcountry, urban or underground areas of operation (achieving a range of up to 5km between nodes).

The CNC machined housing ensures optimum thermal distribution with the unique pattern on the front of the device enhancing the thermal efficiency of this part as a passive heatsink.  This signature heatsink carries the visual form of the brand and enforces a visual identity of energy and strength. The Hypha logo angles were extended out to radiate the brand, however these ridges also perform the important job of heat dissipation. The mounting option is unique to common vehicle mounts with its simple two click lock/remove design. This is required as the MAP can be quickly swapped from vehicle to aircraft carry on for remote area search and rescue operations. The design is intended to be ambiguous in it's orientation as there are multiple installation orientations that can be adopted for this product on a case-by-case basis. The device footprint and thickness is optimised to be as lightweight as possible while offering good thermal distribution.  Signature device LED's highlight the user-interface points. Within the device there are two different core OEM modules that are interchangeable at the point of assembly.  Even so, components and assembly process are kept universal to increase manufacturing and assembly efficiencies.  The result is two distinctly different hardware solutions that can be offered with very few unique parts required.  This enables a great deal of flexibility to production forecasting as the defined hardware/software solution can be determined subsequent to sourcing manufactured parts.

A globally competitive solution

Innovation + Commerciality: Australian innovation serving an essential safety role in demanding situations.

The HyphaMAP product offers a vital contribution to Hypha's Mesh network offering. It offers a reliable and uninterrupted communications channel and unlike it's handheld companion product, HyphaCAP, it does not require batteries to be monitored or replaced. This means that it will become a crucial "back-of-house" device ensuring that the frontline communications are seamless and dependable. The world is becoming increasingly tech-centric and Hypha has created another fitting solution for various real-world tech applications. Furthermore, Hypha has pledged a commitment to manufacturing and assembly units in Australia creating jobs and domestic revenue. Since the products launch, units have been sold and distributed Australia wide and globally into USA, Spain and the UAE.
