RMP-1

Developing a Brand and Product Design Language for the ground-breaking Rapid Metal Printer 1 (RMP-1)

Aurora Labs’ is on a mission to make 3D metal printing accessible for developers, researchers, creators and to drive 3D printing into high volume manufacturing. Aurora Labs' is currently working to develop the Rapid Manufacturing Printer One (RMP1), RMP1 is expected to be the world's fastest Direct Metal Laser Melting (DMLM) 3D printer featuring Multi-layer Concurrent Printing (MCP™) technology. Aurora's patented MCP™ technology allows for direct metal 3D printing at rates much faster than what has been previously possible with the established single layer DMLM technology. MCP technology enables multi-laser systems to deliver multiple layers of parallel powders at the same time, multiplying laser propagation and performance over MCP-free DMLM systems. The advantage of integrating MCP technology with DMLM technology is the reduction of the need for furnace processing over MIM solutions, which helps to achieve the production of highly complex + high-quality geometries utilising metal additive manufacturing.

ADVANCED AESTHETICS

A disruptive approach to design aesthetics for high-technology machines.

Aurora Labs’ approached D+I to assist in the development of a unique brand + product design language that would be representative of + reinforce the advanced solutions provided by Aurora Labs’ and the high-technology embedded inside the RMP-1. The concept design developed for the RMP-1 required the creation of visually distinctive + highly appealing aesthetic that would establish a point of difference from competitors and could be carried across future product ranges. The all-in-one design developed for the Rapid Metal Printer 1 incorporates a unique feature set to deliver a system that has been optimised for usability, operability, desirability and manufacturability.
