Vanguard Wireless
Vanguard Wireless is an Australian designer and manufacturer that uses a high tech solution to help businesses improve how they alert and manage a workplace evacuation or medical emergency. The systems support a business’ emergency plan (alert, communication, testing), which is a mandatory SafeWork requirement for any business to have within Australia. D+I was approached to design the hardware casing (that holds all the electrical components) + device backboards + UI/UX designs for the operating system that sits within the touchscreen control panel. The result is a site specific, ruggedized + waterproof, rechargeable, fully portable wireless system that can be expanded as needs grows. The system needed to be simple to install (under 30 minutes with no specialist trades required), simple to use + to maintain. Beyond mechanical design + development D+I needed to establish a new brand image and design language for Vanguard to carry across future ranges of products.
IoT Connected Nurse + Evacuation Call Systems
The system required the development of four core elements designed for mass production to maximise commercialisation opportunities.
The Base Station: full-colour Touchscreen Control Unit (TCU), Mains Powered, Wall-mounted + optional Smart Phone App (iOS + Android) allows for full system flexibility. Nurse + Evacuation Call: The Nurse Call is battery powered wall-mounted activation switch point. The switch is a robust waterproof and rear-lit industrial plunger switch. Upon activation, a signal is sent to the Base Station via an external antenna. The Siren: A battery-powered wall-mounted module which emits the Siren alert and displays a flashing strobe light. The Siren and flashing light are activated upon receiving the signal from Base Station via an external antenna. Smartphone Application — Management: View individual unit power and connectivity status in real-time. Be alerted when a device is low on power or has lost connection. Easily reposition a device to improve connectivity. Run tests, manage user authorisations, view activity reports. Smartphone Application — In an Emergency: Send push notifications to key personnel. Monitor who Accepts/Declines to respond to a nurse call alert. Authorise a full or partial site evacuation. Test devices together or individually. Monitor system events remotely. View activity reports for auditing purposes.
