Oxy-Viva 4

Portable Resuscitator by CIG Healthcare

Oxy-Viva 4 is an all-in-one resuscitation unit. Operating off a 400-litre oxygen cylinder, Oxy Viva provides a mobile solution allowing medical services professionals to perform resuscitation, suction, and oxygen therapy. CIG Health Care worked with D+I to update the design of the Oxy-Viva unit which had been available in Australia since the 1960s. These updates focused on an overhaul of the product’s image creating a distinctive and attractive design, whilst improving on usability.

Disctinctive + Friendly Aesthetics

Optimised for usability + operability.

The rotationally moulded plastic shell is a clear comparison to the previous sheet metal, offering a distinctive and 'friendly' appearance to the professionals and laypeople who encounter it. The external contours are curved for ease of cleaning and the plastic shell is filled with foam to provide the rigidity for it to be sat on whilst also making it light enough to float. Inside the case are various component compartments containing connection tubes, oxygen masks, an instruction booklet, and an ergonomic carry strap for the case. Oxy-Viva was awarded an Australian Design Award in 1992 with the additional accolade of the Powerhouse Museum.
