Zeta Announces Successful Treatment of First Patient in Neurosurgical Navigation Clinical Trial

PRESS RELEASE: FIRST IN-HUMAN CLINICAL TRIAL SUCCESS

Zeta Surgical and Design + Industry Celebrate First Successful Human Treatment in Clinical Trial of Innovative Cranial Navigation System at Singapore's National Neuroscience Institute

Zeta Surgical, a front-runner startup in the field of surgical robotics and mixed reality, in collaboration with Design + Industry (D+I), proudly announces a crucial milestone - the successful treatment of the first patient using their groundbreaking Zeta Cranial Navigation System. The treatment marks the first-in-human trial of the innovative system at the esteemed Singapore's National Neuroscience Institute (NNI), symbolising a transformative advancement in the realm of neurosurgery.

The trial held at NNI, recognised globally as a leading neurosurgical institution, focused on evaluating the safety, efficacy, and feasibility of the Zeta Cranial Navigation System in pin-less bedside ventriculostomy procedures. Spearheaded by NNI Associate Consultant, Dr. Min Wei Chen, the clinical trial is conducted at two esteemed locations: Singapore General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr. Chen, expressing his delight at the initial results of the trial, said, "I'm very impressed with the underlying technology and its accuracy. We're very excited to be the first institution to run this trial on human patients and to have successfully onboarded our first participant with promising early results. We're looking forward to the rest of the trial."

Speaking on the revolutionary technology, Dr. William Gormley, Chief Medical Officer of Zeta Surgical and Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School, stated, "Placing a navigated bedside ventricular catheter in a mobile, non-cranially-pinned patient is truly a landmark accomplishment. It brings the extraordinary precision found in the neurosurgical operating room of select institutions in the world to all patients, irrespective of if they are in the emergency room, the intensive care unit, or the operating room. It is truly an accomplishment that democratizes medicine and will make an enormous difference across a broad range of procedures."

David Jones, Head of D+I, the trusted product design consultancy behind the commercialisation of Zeta’s technology, commented, “Zeta is a revolutionary neurosurgical navigation system that uses augmented reality and CT scan imagery to enable accurate positioning of neurosurgical tools. The first successful treatment during the clinical trial is an important milestone and a great achievement. The project is a fantastic example of D+I’s ability to collaborate with medical device startups globally in an ISO 13485 compliant process to deliver world leading industrial design and electronics outcomes.”

Raahil Sha, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Zeta Surgical, highlights the impact of the trial, "This trial marks our first step towards making surgical guidance truly accessible across neurosurgery and neuroscience," adding that they are thrilled to collaborate with NNI in their mission to enhance surgical precision and patient safety.

Zeta Surgical is currently seeking regulatory approval for the Cranial Navigation System. This successful clinical trial represents a significant milestone in bringing this innovative technology to patients worldwide. Zeta Surgical and D+I are dedicated to prioritising patient safety and well-being by adhering to all necessary regulations and guidelines.
