DESIGN FOR LIFE EXHIBITION

Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences

26 September 2020–31 January 2021, 10am–5pm
Powerhouse Museum, 500 Harris St, Ultimo NSW 2007

Design for Life explores the central role of design in the health and medical sectors, showcasing design innovation in the creation of equipment, devices, tools and apparatus that save and improve the quality of human life. Recent partnerships between the medical sciences and design industry have pioneered medical equipment that is increasingly portable and personalised.

Drawing on the Museum’s rich collection of medical and scientific material from the late 1800s to present day, the exhibition will bring together over 200 objects from the collection with the latest in medical and scientific product design. The Exhibition showcases life-saving devices that assist breathing, monitor the heart, analyse blood, improve brain and body function and reimagine drug delivery. Within this context recent projects, including the world’s first high-throughput 3D bioprinting platform (RASTRUMInventia Life Science), demonstrate some of the ground-breaking achievements resulting from these important collaborations.

Design for Life was created in collaboration with Sydney Design Week Creative Director – Stephen Todd, Design + Industry and global leader in sleep technology ResMed.
