Foxtel™ iQ5

The Foxtel set top box that cuts the cable. Stream 4K Entertainment Wirelessly.

iQ5 introduces a whole new way to get connected to the best of TV + On-Demand content from Foxtel. With iQ5 there’s no need for cable installation to get started. Foxtel Customers can now connect using Hybrid (Satellite + IP) or IP-Mode (Plug in the internet or stream via Wi-Fi) — making it easier than ever for more Australians to enjoy the best in entertainment. Foxtel and D+I worked to develop a product design language styled to appeal to a wide national audience and to be representative of a high-value next-generation in-home entertainment system. iQ5 features an elevated and minimalist matte ‘Traffic Black + Cool Gray’ aesthetic, iQ5 blends seamlessly into any interior, be it placed next to the television or in shelf spaces. iQ5 sits slightly raised, hovering, and uses non-stick rubber feet to ensure no marks are left on furniture. iQ5 introduces modularity allowing customers to choose what works best: iQ5 Only & iQ5 + Hard Drive (real-time recording). iQ5 is enhanced with Foxtel’s rich media UI and is easily navigated with the familiar Foxtel remote control.

Innovative leaps for Foxtel and Customers: New ways to connect. Striking styling. Reduced environmental impacts.

“Foxtel engaged D+I roughly 24 months ago to assist with the development of the next-generation set top box. iQ5 is a stunning result. For Foxtel, there has been real value in leveraging D+I's independent expertise alongside internal resources.”  - Head of Product, Foxtel

The investment in a transition away from a cable-based service to IP, by enabling users to access Foxtel via something as familiar as WiFi presents a significant customer growth opportunity for the business. Pairing this with an elevation in aesthetics and user experience at a decreased price point (compared to iQ4), iQ5 makes a compelling combination that is expected to drive adoption of iQ5 by existing customers, and appeal to a large but previously untapped market. Q5 introduces a new modular approach, iQ5 can be purchased standalone or with an additional external hard-drive module (add-on at any time). An instant plug and play upgrade — Simply align the stand-off pins of the hard drive module with the entertainment box, press down softly, and listen for the click. Continuous curvature, a reduction in physical footprint, paired with a soft and minimal aesthetic combines into a device representative of a high-quality entertainment product appealing to the wide Foxtel customer demographic. Via a reduction in footprint, intentionally premium + subtle CMF choices — Foxtel has been able to reduce the costs of manufacture for the device and in turn, pass on this reduction to customers. iQ5 has been constructed free of single-use plastics, with internal electronics optimised to significantly lower power consumption when compared to the previous iQ4 model. The power consumption of iQ5 is approx. ~15% less than the previous iQ4 model. Across millions of Foxtel customers, every watt saved, and any reduction in plastics contributes to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint of the entertainment system.
