The Control Engineering 'Engineers' Choice Awards' highlight some of the best new control, instrumentation and automation products as chosen by Control Engineering's print and online subscribers.
Winners are selected based on technology advancement, service to the industry, and market impact. Honeywell received the most votes to be awarded an Engineers' Choice Award, in the Hardware, HMI, Operator Interface category. A fantastic achievement and one the D+I is honoured to be part of.
"Honeywell's Experion Orion Console enhances the control room experience with a combination of ergonomics and advanced display technology that provides status assessments at a glance, reduces operator fatigue and increases operator effectiveness.
Imagine sitting on a cramped flight for 10 to 12 hours without much sleep. Upon stepping off the plane, would you feel capable of making a critical decision on which literally the fate of a business and possibly human lives depended? That's exactly what the industry has expected from plant operators for many years, and it's time to upgrade the tools they need to meet those demands. Honeywell's Experion Orion Console was created for this very purpose.
Announced in June, the Experion Orion Console brought the control room of the future into the present with an improved ergonomic design and better displays that simplify plant management, reduce operator fatigue and improve situational awareness. Honeywell's unique HMI capabilities allow faster response to changing conditions. The console features a large, ultra-high definition display that provides clear status assessments of process operations in a single glance for better and more-informed management. Operators can customize displays for context-specific process issues and incorporate advanced alarm management and pan-and-zoom capabilities. Limits and targets are integrated into overview displays, so the operator can achieve more efficient product and production transitions. Touch panel displays help operators to quickly and accurately respond to changing conditions.
One of the primary principles of the Experion Orion Console design lies within the person sitting in the operator's chair. In addition to providing faster, more effective navigation and control, adjustable sitting and standing operating positions reduce fatigue and address health and safety concerns around extended periods of sitting. In addition, an alarm light panel changes color using subtle fixed illumination to provide an indication of the current alarm state of the console throughout the control room.
The Experion Orion Console is the interface for Honeywell's Experion PKS Orion, which helps industrial plants implement automation projects faster and more efficiently, while easily managing daily operations."
